| DURHAM - Mr. Paul Daniel Warsley, 96, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013 at Spring Arbor of Durham. Mr. Warsley was born in Jeansville, Pa. June 18, 1916, the son of the late Katalin Szemann Warsley and Paul Warsley. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Fitzgerald Warsley, and six brothers and sisters. Mr. Warsley attended Holy Infant Catholic Church. He was a resident of Lyndhurst, N.J., and Olney, Md. before moving to North Carolina in 2005.
Surviving are his daughter, Janice Warsley Hunt and husband, William, of Durham; son, Daniel Paul Warsley and wife, Suzanne, of Manassas, Va.; grandchildren, Dr. William (Julia) Hunt III of Cary; Elizabeth (Cyrus) Hunt Bradford of Durham; Daniel Thomas Warsley of Fairfax, Va.; and Matthew Paul Warsley of Fairfax, Va.; and nine great grandchildren.
Mr. Warsley married Elizabeth T. Fitzgerald on Oct 3, 1942 after joining the 3rd US Army’s 12th Evacuation Hospital, which participated in the Normandy Invasion June 6, 1944. He served as a master sergeant in the European Theatre until the end of the war.
After his discharge from the army, Mr. Warsley worked as an executive in systems engineering at Vitro Laboratories, one of the largest defense contractors in the Washington, D.C. area. He retired from Vitro after thirty years’ service and joined the US Navy’s Naval Sea Systems Command where he worked for 18 years as an analyst for the Strategic and Attack Submarine Program Office’s Ohio class of nuclear-powered submarines.
Mr. Warsley served as the Director of the National Latin Honor Society from 1976 through 2010, succeeding his brother, Dr. Albert E. Warsley. who founded the organization in 1929.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, February 4 at 11 a.m. at Holy Infant Catholic Church by Rev. Fr. David Devlin, OSFS. Burial will follow in St. Matthew Catholic Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at Holy Infant Catholic Church.
